New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
1 Attachment(s)
Seems there's a new power option from Mercruiser.
Would be a great upgrade from the 4.3L and kind'a makes the 5.0L V8 obsolete! Mercury MerCruiser 4.5L 250 HP Inboard, Sterndrive 2015 Engine Test / Reviews Videos, Specs, Fast Facts, Captain reports | BoatTEST.com |

Re: New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
Seems to be all good things about the new motor so far.
This kind'a backs up my feelings about the old 5.0L though. |

Re: New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
That is really impressive.
" Performance Recently, BoatTEST.com was able to test one of the first new MerCruiser 4.5L engines on a sportboat. Our test weighed in at just under 5,000 lbs. (2,268 kgs), which is heavy for a 23-footer (7.01 m). Turning the twin bladed Bravo III, we got on plane in an impressive 4 seconds and reached 40 mph in just a hair over 16 seconds. Wide-open throttle delivered 44.8 mph burning 19.25 gallons an hour or 2.33 miles per gallon. Our most efficient cruise speed gave us 3.63 miles per gallon at 3,500 rpm with a respectable 29.4 mph speed." That is ballpark weight with my 250 Shabah with a 7.4MPI and that speed is within 5 mph of my WOT... |

Re: New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
I wonder how much faster this would make my 180talari.

Re: New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
It would be an interesting package!
I could stand to be corrected, but I think the 180's are only rated at 225hp. Not saying that the boats wont take it but it would be a situation with insurance? Best I've seen out of my 180 Diablo with 190hp, running light and on a tall prop has been 54mph. With this motor (less weight/more power) I don't see why it wouldn't run near the magic 60mph. Stability at those speeds might be an issue in an 18' boat. Could be fun though  |
Re: New 4.5L V6 Mercruiser
Has anyone seen a list price for the engine though? I'll bet it's a pretty penny, especially since it's their own proprietary design...
