distributor

I am looking at DUI distributors for my 1996 shabah 210. Has anybody used this distributor and how id it work for you. Also can the distributor be removed with the motor in the boat?

Re: distributor

I've never used one myself, but knew several people that used to run them in circle track cars and really liked them. I always liked msd and didn't have reason to try another brand, but based on what others said, I'd run one. If you're talking the hei models, just stay away from the cheap accel brand and some of the others that are like $69 or $99. Most are junk. I also knew racers that tried them and had lots of problems. Can't help you with whether it'll come out or not.

Yes I am talking HEI. DUI makes a great Marine HEI distributor, and I also no people that ran them on the circle track, I was going to but rolled car and other things became more important than racing. Now boating can take family and especially grand kids. Was just hoping to help out motor. Wish I knew that the distributor wold come out with out much trouble.

I'll do some measuring of the original distributor shaft length for you.
I think it is around 9.5-10 inch , the drive gear depth is the biggie.
Can you measure the clearance from the top of the cap to the bottom of the engine bay panel?
Going to do the DUI conversion on my 4.3LX sometime this winter I hope. I too have heard nothing but praise about them.
I question the HP gains they claim , but I think the bottom end of the scale is attainable.

Re: distributor

I can tomorrow when get home from work. With the ap and rotor off that should help clear some room for installation. I know that their will be a HP gain but the overall performance should improve. I do not know what the original ignition puts out but 50,000 volts is a good ignition. I will be putting a 4 barrel and aluminum intake on this winter so increase in total performance should be noticeable.

I measured the distance from the top of the plug wires to the engine bay ir=s is about 7 inches. I will gain a few inches removing the cap and rotor, I believe that it should just fit in. I will probably not do this swap till the winter. I just want to have fun right now.
