Engine random bogin

Hello Everyone. I have a 2003 sc19 with a mercruiser 4.3. I bought the boat last spring. I had one issue over the summer that ended up being cracks in the distributor cap. The marina where i brought the boat to said it was a bad fuel pump and replaced it and then later found out it was the distributor cap.

Last Saturday we went out the boat ran fine all day but on the way in the boat started bogin or stuttering. It would do it randomly and just felt like it was not getting any fuel for a few seconds. It does not stall and if you back off on the gas it stops and you can continue on. A few days later I went up to test it and it did the same thing right away. I went in changed the fuel/water separator and went back out. It ran much better but still bogged 3 or 4 times. Any ideas on what this could be?

Thank You,
Heath

Re: Engine random bogin

Sounds like bad fuel/tarnished fuel.
Was stabilizer added to fuel last fall?
How much fuel was in tank when winterized last fall?

BTW: Welcome to MOC! :)

Thanks for the quick replay,

There was about a 1/3 tank when it was winterized. The fuel was from the Marina and they say that they add stabilizer. I filled it up before I put it in the water and added stabilizer. Does stabilizer go bad? Because the stabilizer I added was a few years old.

Thanks,

So the fuel stabilizer needed to be stabilized? ;) I've never seen it go bad but i suppose that eventually it could. Good time to change the fuel filter...

I changed the fuel/water separator filter. Is there another fuel filter?
