output / prop shaft
What is the difficulty level of replacing the output /prop shaft in a alpha one unit. mine has a very slight runout issue (wobble) not enough to even cause the seal to leak or anything but I know its not good and want to replace it. Looks like it would have to come out the back. I assume it's retained somehow behind the prop. Any ideas? NOTE: I didn't bend it. The drive looks good w/no damage. the prop was newish when I picked the boat up from the marina I bought it from. Any ideas/help on doing this repair would be much appreciated!

Parts/prop shaft
I know I have seen a video for the Alpha One prop shaft but I just did a quick search. It is similar to the Bravo. You need a special tool to remove the bearing carrier and a separate tool to remove the retaining ring. I think with those two odd tools the Alpha shaft is a DIY. The Bravo I know for a fact has to be torqued to speck with another special gauge on the drive shaft. You'll have to read up on it. Replacing bearings and seals is smart if you are going to have the prop shaft out. A pressure test is another smart idea too. It all makes for a more enjoyable summer experience. I did all of the above to my outdrive before last season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttNSaEyC_UE |
Re: output / prop shaft
Completely different, and the alpha looks like a pita to pull that prop shaft. looks like I'll be buying a new lower when this one quits. If there is no water in the gear oil, I think i'll leave it alone for now.
