Msd??

Has anyone played with adding MSD ignition to their boat. I have a 2000 z272 with 7.4L MPI and was wondering if anyone has tried it. I added an MSD box to a stock 350 in a chevelle and was amazed.

Welcome to MOC njc!
Pretty sure your going to run into a cluster of probs if you try to use a MSD on your Mariah with the MPI system.
There are a few members who have run "Aftermarket Ignitions" at a prime cost , but I don't think it is worth it , unless you do other mods(cam , exhaust , injectors , etc).
To tell the truth........... your not going to gain much for the effort.
I , personally would change out the exhaust manifolds for some performance ones.
You'd probably be happier. Yes , they're spendy , but..............HP ain't cheap!

I'm sure some of the "big boys" will chime in with more info. :)

I have the same motor. I contemplated the ignition, manifolds, cams ect... It did not take long to come to the realization the Mariah (Shabah 250) is for cruising and not speed. Yes it is sporty but its not a go fast boat. I'd be happy just replacing with OEM or similar. I dont think its as easy as a after market ignition to gain HP on the 7.4. Hopefully Oregon will chime in. He has done extensive work to his and has been chasing gremlins around since. Same for my buddy's Fountain with twin 502 mags... The electrical stuff opened a box of issues...
