Merc Inline Fuel Filter

I have a Davanti Z225 with a Merc 350 in it. The original engine was replaced with this one 2010. I need to replace my fuel filter, and the part recommended was Quicksilver 35-864572. When I put it on, the threads matched, but the lines did not seal. After closer inspection, the fittings inside the nut on the fuel filter were slightly different from the original fuel filter I pulled off. So, my questions:

1. What was the original engine in a 1995 Mariah Davanti Z225 ?
2. Does anyone happen to know the part number of the fuel filter I need ? (pic attached below)
3. Are there fittings available to connect my fuel line to the new fuel filter I have (Quicksilver 35-864572)

Any help much appreciated - nothing more maddening and saddening than your boat staying dry on a sunny summer day...

Original engine could have been any of the following: 5.7L, 7.4L, 454Mag. If you send your Hull ID via private message to ShabahZ250 (Chris) he should be able to provide you with your build information.

As for the part# etc, i'm not sure if each of those engines use different filters. What happened to the original filter? It should have a part# on it or you could take it with you to your nearby Merc dealer.

Thanks MikeyT. Actually the part that was removed did not have a part number on it, oddly enough. I did call a different mechanic, and he did have the correct part (807174). I put it in and the boat fired right up and ran all day, then when i started to head back it quit and wouldn't start. I put a few gallons of gas in it yesterday - now the boat will start, run for 5 seconds, then quit. Not sure what is going on - i have an order in with the mechanic. Everybody keeps saying bad gas - but I put ethanol-free gas in mine, and put some seafoam in every now and then too.

So... i do have a question regarding gas. The gas tank vent is on the back of my boat. It's black and plastic with vents all around it. When it rains, or you wash your boat, or water is splashing on the transom - what prevents the water from going down that valve and into the gas tank? Is that just standard, and the reason you have a water separater? I have to wonder if there might be impurities, sediments etc in my tank, and no matter what gas I put in, it's is corrupted because of my tank. ?? If anyone else has had this problem or any ideas what my issue is, I am all ears ~

Thanks!

Figuratively right? :)

Its quite possible you have some sediment in the line. Did you pull the new filter and check it out?

When i pulled the old filter the gas that came out was brown. but the new gas going in was crystal clear. if the lines are bad i wonder why the previous mechanic didnt check that - ?

Sounds like you got major crap(lack of better word) in the tank. you need to pull the filler hose and inspect interior of tank. A bore scope works great for this. Apparently old fuel was in it for quite a long time and varnished up in the tank.
Yes , it's a pain in the butt to get rid of. Flush , flush , flush.
Either that or pay to have it cleaned.

Thank you! I mentioned it to the mechanic. But might try to tackle it myself, with help. Like I say, when it runs it purrs like a kitten. But getting it to run... Thanks for the advice --

Update ... talked to mechanic today, he is 99% sure the problem is in the vapor seperator tank. My previous mechanic never even mentioned the VST before.

Hey Marsh,

Where is the VST located? I wonder I have one on my Z240 Talari?

Thanks.

actually i don't know. i was hoping someone on this site would tell me. I did find the part on a website (see link below) , but don't know where this assembly is on the engine. My new mechanic still has my boat, when I get it back i will ask him. btw he said he checked everything, and when he removed my distributor cap it was full of crud and corrosion, and the plugs needed replacing as well -- he's basically going over everything my inept former mechanic failed to do since last july. All this repair is costly but it's cheaper than buying another boat. :wink_thumbup: And after contemplating the purchase of another boat i always come to the same conclusion - i want the boat i already have, i just need it to run.
