Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
Should I be concerned about this damage?
I don't remember having this damage to my outdrive, but I could have missed it. I just finished trailering the boat about 650 miles (it hasn't been in the water) and although I can't imagine that something would have hit it, I guess it could be possible. I did have a trailer tire blow out. Any thoughts would be appreciated. http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/...8/IMG_2949.jpg |
Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
Fixed it for ya allz and sent you a PM :)
It looks like a new break to me. I would think you could have a new piece welded in fairly easy. Is it on the front or the rear of the lower unit , kinda hard to tell in pic? |
Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
It's on the front of my Alpha 1. And thanks for fixing the photo!

Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
It's not going to cause any real issue , but I'd take it to a good welder and see if he can weld you a new piece on without a heat issue. I think it is possible.
Then you can form it , finish off the edges , and repaint. Never see it was there. If you do nothing it might cause stress cracks in the aluminum , but I doubt it. |
Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
Good info, Larry. I really appreciate it. I'll probably try to leave it alone and hope it doesn't cause any stress cracks through this season. Boat has a lot of big expenses coming and anything I can put off for a little while will help.

Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
What Insurance co. do you use? State Farm [ TEXAS] said they don't pay for damage to lower units

Re: Damage to Lower Unit Fin.
I didn't try to turn this in to insurance.
