Flywheel weight

Hey all ,
I have a ongoing argument with a buddy that says if I turn say a 1/4" off the flywheel on a mercruiser I/O (or any other I/O) that it will make the motor spin up faster resulting in a better holeshot and more speed.
I say that it will result in less torque and mess with the balance of the engine(unless internally balanced).
Anyone got an apinion?:)

in my mind it seems like you would both be correct.... It SHOULD rev faster, but you would have less torque.... Absolutely nothing to back it up though.... I would say that Chevy/Mercruiser have designed it to the current thickness for a reason!
