Carburetor rebuild this fall question
Are the carburetors on these Mercruisers the same as an automobile? I would like to take mine off and have my mechanic buddy clean and rebuild it this fall. He has been a GM dealer mechanic for over 20 years.
I have a 1995 5.0 LX. It has a 4 barrel carb. It's never been touched and it's 16 years old. I'm getting quite a bit of hesitation at launch. OK underway. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Danny |
Re: Carburetor rebuild this fall question
Yes a rebuild might help parts in the carb wear out over time too. I am pretty sure it should be the same as the car GM love rochesters, I had a buddy of mine who has been a GM shop foreman here for over 20 years do mine on my old boat made a big difference I think it was about 14 years old when I got him to do it.

Re: Carburetor rebuild this fall question
hi Danny
Your mechanic should be well versed on Rochester carbs & shouldn't have any problem in rebuilding this one. Make sure he replaces the accelerator pump too as they tend to cause acceleration issues too. |
Re: Carburetor rebuild this fall question
Sounds great-I will have to find out if it is a Rochester or a Mercarb. If it is a Mercarb, will he still be able to do the rebuild, or will I have to take it to a Merc mechanic?
I can't believe we are talking about Rochester carburators. I haven't even seen one since shop class back in 89. I need fuel injection soon. A pair of 700 hp Mercruiser SCI's sounds great!
