Noob needs HELP!

Hey everyone! I just bought a 92 Mariah mx19 with the 4.3l Merc. We took it out today and spent most of the day skiing and tubing, that is until it died out on me. My buddy was skiing and fell and when I swung around to get him I through it in neutral and it stalled out. We tried starting and It would crank but not turn over. It had been running great all day. Any help would be great.

We had to swim the boat in from 3/4 of the way across the lake!!!! So, Im going to bed but I'll check back in the morning..

Thanks in advance!

Re: Noob needs HELP!

Just wanted to add this. I pulled the engine cover off and the carb cover off. 1st thing I noticed was that the butterflies were all the way open and would not shut unless I push them down. Not sure if thats normal on these. 2nd thing is that the water separator has 2 barbed tubes coming off it with no hoses hooked up. I looked all around and didnt see any type of vacuum line laying around or disconnected. Hope this helps.

1. Congrats on the new boat. My Mariah was the same model and we loved it.
2. Cranking and turning over are the same thing
3. I'm sure you didn't do it because you had an option but I've heard of more than one drowning because of people swimming from a stranded water craft to land. Just something to keep in mind.
4. If the butterflies were shut then the engine would be choked. It probably didn't need choked if you'd just been pulling someone. They work off a heat activated spring of sorts.

Did you make sure your kill switch (the lanyard attaches to) wasn't switched off?

Aye it seems usual suspects with quick dead engine are electrical gremlins.

Re: Noob needs HELP!

I had a life jacket on and we had the women watching. lol. I went out and got some muffs and gave it a shot. Pumped the gas a few times and she fired up on the first turn. When I was in the boat i thought that maybe it was flooded and so I tried not to give it any more gas. Now Im wondering if it just didnt have enough. Anyway, it runs in the driveway and hopefully get it out this weekend. I will chime back if I have any other problems. Ohh, and the previous owner just looped the kill switch because he kept having problems with it.
