Silent Choice needs reinstalled

I have a 2001 Z275ST with a 6.2L Merc. The original owner actually removed the silent choice exhaust because the elbow was leaking or something. They left the exhaust tips in and just capped them off inside. All the electrical is still there, so is it just installing the "elbow" and that's it? I have never installed this system before and desperately want this feature back. Any ideas on where to get this elbow? Thanks!!

Does anyone know what diverter I would need from Corsa? I called them and they said that it would be $1,000 for 2 diverters. but I would really like to find a set on Ebay for alot less! The original owner took out the diverters, but left everything else. I could have cried when I saw that she did this!

Are the solenoids there? I don't see them in the pics.
The solenoids that Corsa used (Woodcraft, iirc) have been discontinued. You have to buy the new ones at like $170 and also a replacement harness at $170. Just something else to think about.

As a side note: I did recently notice that Hardin Marine has a diverter kit for about a grand. The description on that page is pretty lame though.

No, the solenoids are gone as well. The Thru-Hull tips, and switch and switch wiring is all that's left. Corsa's quote of $1,000 did include everything I needed to reinstall it. I am just being cheap now and trying to find it cheaper! But it is hard to be cheap when I am gonna drop $1,000 for nothing but a male ego booster anyways! Well, I am gonna go throw a temper tantrum now!!! :) :)

That temper tantrum will look so appropriate though when you can pull in that solenoid and spit out raw horsepower over the lake.

I can hardly forget the guy at the dock that said " that sounds bad a**!" I had to agree with him.

Its worth the grand, pull the trgger.

I had to rig up some weird angle exhaust path to go from my Lightning headers to the transom under the swim steps on my Z302. I bought a bunch of 15, 30, 45 degree pvc fittings and pipe and used them to get the correct placement and then had a stainless pipe fitter weld up 4.5" material into a one off custom down tube exhaust system. Cost me $1200 but you will need a lot less material and with less angles than I needed to in my situation. I will look for pictures and post them here.

Once csterner's issue has been resolved, can someone please explain what this Silent Choice thing is? Is it like equivalent of putting something like a Borla/Magnaflow exhaust on a car?

Switchable exhaust. So you can choose to have it either go straight out the hull (loud) or out through the prop (quite) at the flick of a switch.
Performance gains are potential but minimal. It's mostly just a cool feature for numerous other reasons.

Is that a lake boating phenomenon? The reason I ask is that I have not seen/heard any boat with a loud sound around where we plan to boat.

Here in Portland Oregon we mostly boat on Rivers (Willamette and Columbia) with miles of open river ahead. It's probably more common with boats that reach higher speeds, then those that are small lake cruisers.

Re: Silent Choice needs reinstalled

Yeah, I don't really think it's isolated to anything in particular. There are definitely DB level laws and complainers on some lakes though. I do think that boat types attract each other too. Put a loud go-fast boat on water where you boat and the go-fasts will start to multiply. I've seen it happen with wake boats too and know of it happening with cruisers. I think the different types are one of the fun dynamics of boating, much like street motorcycles.
We are able to anchor just off the shore (some beach) of the camp loop where we spend most of the Summer. So, it's nice to be to be able to be courteous to camp neighbors when coming and going but also really nice to let her breathe when out running the open water. Man, I wish I would have boated last weekend!

some say that you get an extra 200-300 rpms on top end with the open exhaust. if so, then that means more speed

unfortunately i cant remember the name but i found a web sight on google that makes the whole kit less the tailpipes for around $600. I have the corsa on my z272 but i dont have the solinoids or relays. they were just left open and i dont know why. you are right the parts are expensive. if the elbow was leaking, what did do beside block off the tailpipes?

They literally took the diverters and cut the straight section off that went to the thru hull and welded a cap on the end. They removed the solenoids and then capped off the thru hull tips with a rubber cap and hose clamp. Very sad...very sad...So basically I need new diverters with the solenoids and relays. I took a picture so you could see what it looks like from the side view.

FYI , Moore Performance makes just the pipe section and also a few other units on sale on ebay #270715618888. the difference is these do not have the choice but the exhaust comes out of both and a very inexpensive way to get the sound back. If youre exhaust is under the platform it probably wont be that loud

Thanks Al but I would really want to get the switchable captain's call. We do some small river cruises through neighborhoods and would really like the option to silence her then. Plus sometimes Ya' just need to lay low!!!

I just read that switchable exhausts are illegal in Minnesota. Maybe your boat spent some time in a place with similar laws. Just thought I'd mention it in case it helps you feel better about the PO. :)

Thanks Dredd! That would have made me feel better, but I know that this boat spent its entire life on a lift in a salt water canal in South Florida..:(:(

Yes, I totally agree! I mean, how could you do that to such a beautiful boat! We have been out with it several times now and everyone says, "open up that exhaust!" and all I can do is hang my head in shame!!! LOL

Now I am busting my ass trying to scrub up the $1,000 before Memorial Weekend.I don't want to dip into my bead money though....Gotta have tons of beads! LMAO!

I just realized after taking a newly instituted state boater certification class that Washington state has some laws in place for noise reduction too! Apparently there is a db level max of 78. It doesn't state you can not have over the hull, although it does say you need something to reduce noise to acceptable levels.

I don't mean to steal this thread, but I thought it was on topic.

Does anyone know what db levels we are getting with the over the hull opened up?

Who knows maybe I should sell you mine if Im gonna get a ticket for opening em up....
