Mercruise 3.0L Engine Problems
I bought my "new" 1998 Mariah and had it out for the 3rd time. Was almost at full throttle and the engine sputtered and quit. Couldn't star back up I thought gas guage was broken. Added gas but engine still won't start. It turns over but won't start. Does this sound like a fuel filter problem? Where should I start? HELP.

Re: Mercruise 3.0L Engine Problems
Did the clip attached to the lanyard come off the red kill switch?
If the clip is still on the switch, then check to see if you have fuel at the carb where the fuel line attaches that comes from the fuel pump. If you do, then check the filter inside the carb behind the fitting that the fuel line attaches to on the carb. You could possibly have an ignition component that has failed resulting in no spark. The best thing to do is see whether it is a fuel problem or an electrical problem. |

It wouldn't be the first time i've heard a story about how the engine quit & nothing they did could get it started again.........til they checked the kill switch. ;)

Re: Mercruise 3.0L Engine Problems
I actuall did check the kill switch :)
Had someone out to look at it last night and said it was a blown head gasket. It's going to cost over $600 to fix. I just got the boat and already having issues. I hope there isn't anything else.... |
