Newbie Trim Problems
When I flip battery on I can hear the power trim pump running, even though trim buttons aren't being pressed. And it wont stop running until I flip battery back off. The up/down solenoids were replaced because trim would not go up. Going to go through troubleshooting checklist.
UPDATE: Here is what I discovered. The two solenoids were replaced last month because the trim would not go up. It worked fine, then for some unknown reason whenever the batteries were turned on the trim pump motor would start running, but the prop was not going up or down. All wiring and fuses checked out, one of the batteries was completely dead. Bought a new battery, still same thing once batteries switched on trim pump motor starts running. Decided to put the old up solenoid back in, and now everything appears to work. Can anyone explain that? How could the trim pump motor run if the up down trim switch was never pressed? Is there something else to be concerned about? |
Re: Newbie Trim Problems
Hi brimerianzan, it sounds like the solenoid wiring was reinstalled incorrectly. If you want to try and check the wiring yourself and if you're a contributing member you can follow this link (click here), select the "Alpha1Gen2-PowerTrim.pdf" and you'll find the wiring diagram on page 5A-60. Otherwise take it back and have the shop correct the problem or consider going to someone else more qualified (this is what I would recommend). Good luck, WetWilly |
Re: Newbie Trim Problems
Just a thought... are you sure it is the trim pump and not the bilge pump or blower that you hear running?

I had a similar problem. In my case the switch am back of the swim platform was blocked because dirty of saltwatter. The sterndriwe was in upper position and not going up. I just clean the switch. Best regards! Marjan CVIKL |
Problem resolved
In conclusion I think it was an electrical short caused by moisture/condensation somewhere. The problem totally went away once I backed engine compartment into the garage to tinker with it, for the weekend. I now put a water resistant tarp over the canvas boat cover. Thanks for everyone's input:)
