Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
Hi You guys out there. Thanks for the advise over the rear light pole , ordered one from Marine Power and it got to the UK within 3 days, incredible service. I am out in Spain and enjoying my SC23, but when I exceed 3000revs, the continuous alarm sounds and the power reduces, so I power down to neutral for few minutes and it then runs ok at 3000revs. Am waiting for phone call from mechanic to check it over, but does anyone have any ideas please?:confused:
I think I may be confusing you, it is not a petrol alarm but the continuous alarm, sorry about that!!!! |
Re: Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
The only alarm of which I'm aware is the low-oil-pressure and over-temperature alarm. Tho recently somebody suggested that (on some Mariahs?), that's also a low-drive-lube-level alarm? What is your oil pressure and engine temperature when this happens? What's your outdrive lube level like?

Re: Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
:wink_thumbup:Many thanks for rapid response, to be honest it was a shock to me when it came on and I panicked, thought I had broke it!! so throttled back very quickly to neutral. I tried to go forward but the engine was very lumpy, so put back to neutral for few minutes, then opened throttle slowly and it was fine and ran sweet as a nut at 3000rpm. Did not push it as we were about 2 hours from the marina, and on the medteranean, it was, and is very hot, about 32degrees, so it could possibly be overheating because we were running constantly for about 2 hours on the sea, but not always at 3000rpm, it was probably mostly at around 2000rpm. Will see what happens tommorrow, and will look out for overheating. I did check the engine oil level before we went out and it was fine. It will be hard to check the outdrive lube level as it is on a mooring in a marina, unless anyone has a bright idea. Again thanks for the response's. Cheers John.

Re: Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
The level of the drive lube can be checked while it's in the water, as there is a small plastic reservoir on top of the engine which should be filled with drive lube. The drive will pull lube from this reservoir if the level in the drive drops. If the reservoir isn't near the full line, you might want to top it off. Make sure you use the correct drive lube.

Re: Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
Thanks for the replies, have checked the temp which is constant 175, oil level etc ok and the lube top up tank is ok. Still has continuous alarm over 3000rpm! so have got mechanic comming to check it out next week, he says if it runs ok up to 3000rpm it will be ok to use. Will post his conclusion after he has been. Cheers.

Re: Mercruiser 5L petrol alarm
:confused:Have had the engine checked with the use of the ecm plug in, seesm the engine is overheating when the revs are pushed for planing. Has to come out of the water for the pump in the leg to be sorted. Whoever said boating was expensive is correct, but great fun. Hope this sorts the problem out so I can get back on the water and have some fun. Will post pics when she is up up and away!!
