oil line connection on lower unit
1 Attachment(s)
I am installing a new lower unit on my 96 Talari and it is a Gen 2 . There is a different fitting for the oil line to connect to the unit. Mine is completely different and by looking at the new unit the new type of fitting should pop around on an o ring instead of of twist on connection like my old unit. Has anyone run into this issue and where would I find this fitting to put on the oil line to plug it in?
I have attached the pdf that shows the top of the lower unit and you can clearly se where the oil line connects in front of the shifter rod. Please help guys! I am trying to get this back together before next weeks holiday. |

Have a look at this site. They have some excellent instructions & pics and as well are a source of parts for Mercs & Merc outdrives.

Re: oil line connection on lower unit
Hello shoc,
I assume you’re installing an aftermarket lower unit made by SEI (judging from the PDF) and not a Mercruiser part, correct? I’m also assuming you’re referring to picture 2.6 of the attached PDF file with the fitting between the bolt and the shift rod? If that's the picture, you’re looking at the water fitting for the speedometer, not the oil. If this is the case, it seems that your problem is due to a parts change on Merc lower units built after serial #OL 100009. Prior to this number the shift housing used a “O’ ring system and after the number they changed to a screw type fitting (Part # 9 – Speedometer fitting - per the Merc manual). I would contact SEI and see if they have the other housing assembly (Mercruiser assembly 75664). If you have a Alpha Gen II manual, look at pages 3B-6 and 3B-7, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Here’s SEI's number 813 - 925 - 7127. Good luck and let us know what the fix was, WetWilly |
