Engine updates

Has anybody done any updates to there engines to increase performance or fuel economy that the want to pass along? Maybe a K&N filter or carb. to EFI something that won't break the bank. I did find a oil additive I used in my RV this year that I'm going to use in the boat. It's called OD's Friction Shield with DuPont Teflon. I could tell the difference right away, more power, mpg, etc. It's worth a try.

I have a K&N flame arrestor on mine, no noticeable difference in power or fuel economy. Just a wallet that's $50 lighter. MPI engines aren't really suitable for modifications, I believe you can squeeze a few extra HP out of the carb models though. However, there's a general HP figure for boats. For each extra MPH, it takes 15HP to produce at the higher RPM's. And all in all, the cost to performance ratio with a marine engine is outrageous.

And as far as oil additives, I'd be a little leary of using it in a marine engine. The components, while they may seem similar to an automotive engine, aren't. I'd do some research into it before you put it in the boat. Check http://www.bobistheoilguy.com for some interesting info on oil additives.
