Delayed throttle response
Hello MOC peeps,
I have a question, with regard to my Merc. its the 305, came in my 2000 Mariah Shabah. Alpha 1 I think, I would have to go and check to be certain. I bought the boat last year, ran well... as far as I could tell. But the boat is 20 years old and I don't know what kind of maintenance or tune-up work was done to it over the years. The one thing that stood out last year was a delay in the throttle. There seems to be about an inch to an inch and a half of travel from where I start moving the throttle from the Neutral Position into the forward direction of travel. So, to start with a clean slate, I did a complete tune up on the motor New plugs New Wires New Cap/Rotor and pickup New Ign Coil New Fuel Filter I got it out on the water a few times this season, the motor runs great, idles nicely, but this 'delay' is still prevalent. I've never owned a boat before, I've also never driven a boat (except for this one I have bought), so I have no baseline to go from. I have no grinding (outside of when I am engaging forward or reverse direction) Could it be a worn throttle cable? Not sure where else to look, or what to look at. Thanks everyone, Austin. |
