PCV System?
My next issue with my new to me boat.... on my motor there are 2 screw in oil caps, one on each valve cover. I never seen where one of these ports were not a vent or part of a PCV system.
I was unable to locate pictures or diagrams of any pcv systems by searching here or internet. any direction is appreciated 96' Mercruiser 5.7L |
Re: PCV System?
As a 'Silver Contributor' you do have access to the Mercruiser engine manuals that are located in the "Maintenance & Repairs" section.

Re: PCV System?
Sorry, I couldn't seem to find the section referring to the Crankcase ventilation system

Re: PCV System?
Hopefully someone here with the 5.7 will chime in but given how slow things are around this place, it might be quicker to do a You-Tube search & see if someone has done a video

Re: PCV System?
I'd guess that because of the age of these boats and lack of emissions a pcv might not be utilized. Thats just a guess.

Re: PCV System?
Are you experiencing any particular issues or just trying to locate a PCV?

Re: PCV System?
I sorted it out. There are no actual PCV valves used. There are two hollow adapters that resemble PCV Valves. These have hoses that run from each valve cover to a rinky dink plate that connects both hoses in the general vicinity of the carburetor opening. It work, i guess.
My original issue was that there is also an opening in each valve cover that have a screw in oil cap in them. Seemed odd, but seems to be in order. |
