I have a 2001 shabah 182 the carb cover says 4.3L mercruiser I am trying to get the proper parts like serpentine belt and filters but when I look on line there are so many different 4.3L engine's how do I figure out the right one. There is a 4.3L a 4.3LH and on and on. The engine serial# 0M08788 I will try to upload a picture
Thanks

I might be able to get you in the right direction. HERE is a link to the V6 sterndrives Mercruiser has listed. You should be able to narrow it down significantly off that list. Im guessing that is not a carb motor but a TBI Throttle body injected motor. I had the same motor in a 2003 SC21. THIS is the correct link for your motor... I think.

A few tips for finding filters, belts, etc. You can take the current belt(s) to NAPA or auto parts store and find what you need. Oil filters from the auto world will work the same as Mercruiser's/Quicksilver/Sierra. Fuel filter will probably differ from an "automotive" one but that is why you need the part# off the current or take the current filter in with you and try to get a water separating fuel filter(wont hurt to have a spare one on board either!). That 4.3 motor is a great motor. Essentially it is a GM 5.7/350 minus two cylinders.

See if this Merc Identification chart helps you out and failing that, this listing of parts by Merc engine serial number (includes diagrams) should sort it out. Judging by your serial# you have a Mercruiser 4.3L EFI (GEN+) TBI GM 262

Thanks Guys for the info. I was told once to buy the Mercury belt and oil filter but they seem a little pricey compared to the automotive ones, are they the same or are they made of better material. I will buy a marine fuel water separator but I was thinking the oil filter and belt would be the same.

Sierra brand (marine) works just fine in Mercruisers and is less expensive.
