Stalls with Throddle

Oh wise ones,

2007 Mariah SX19 w/ 111 hours
No history of engine trouble, ran great last Fall
Had it winterized - flushed w/ antifreeze, fogged carb, stabilizer in gas.

Cranked it up two weeks ago - started fine but ran rough
Wanted to stall unless throttle was worked back&forth
Suspected bad gas - topped off tank with 10 fresh gallons
Added two cans of SeaFoam.
Once warm, will idle in neutral but still wants to stall with throttle.
Will rev RPMs if work throttle.

Took it to shop that winterized.
Diagnosis from hearing it run was bad accelerator pump.
Recommended rebuild of carb and tune up - distributor, wires & plugs.

Question #1: Does the diagnosis sound right?
Question #2: Is $700 reasonable for this work? Carb rebuild is $300. Tune-up for $400 seems excessive.

Thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom and experience.

The carb's accelerator pump is probably dried out and not sealing anymore. Price is about right. A used Rochester one is about $300 and a new Edelbrock is about $470 with adapter.

I would skip the tuneup until you see the results of the carb rebuild. When was the last tuneup done?

I have had something similar to this on an older car. I bought the carb rebuild kit for about $40 and just replaced the accelerator pump myself.

Re: Stalls with Throddle

Thx for the reply GaryDoug. Is a carb rebuild something a reasonably handy person can do? My mechanic is backed up at least three weeks. Between the hefty price and the long wait, I am considering taking a shot at it.

Does the 2007 Mariah SX19 use a Rochester or Edelbrock? Other?

Hoping to get additional feedback from others.

Most Mercruisers use the Rochester carb I think. But you should verify that by comparing markings to photos. My old car had a Rochester Quadrajet (4bbl) but I don't know what engine you have or whether your year boat has the same type. The accelerator pump is on the top of most carbs and you would have to remove the top layer to change it, so maybe use a new gasket there also.

The Edelbrock is an aftermarket type as far as I know.

Perhaps someone here knows more than I do. I am used to car engines but not boats so much.

Throw on a Holly double pumper 4 barrel with a bottle of nitrous. Best tube ride of you will ever have lol!

2007 Mariah SX19 with MerCruiser MCM 4.3 L 262 CID (manufactured Feb 2006)

Is there a recommended web site for carburetors?

Found this site:
http://flyingfishcarburetors.com/Mar...hester-OMC.htm
This might be the match for my boat:
190 (262cid) 4.3L
TKS Engine
V6
2005-2011
2 Mercarb
866141
865941
Y38-86
$278

I suggest starting at this site: https://www.marineengine.com/parts/m...rive/index.php

See if you can get the engine serial number and lookup the carb rebuild kit. The kit is usually at the bottom of the parts list. Once you have tat, you can shop around for that kit number.
