245 Swim Step Ladder cover

I am in need of a new cover for the ladder on the swim step of my 245 Deck boat.

It is normally held on and flips open on a Piano hinge, but a rather large crack has developed and was told it would be chaper to get a new one..yea right:worry_to_laugh:! than to rebuild the current one.

Any help would be appreciated.:D

Hi LHC Kirby,

I think we know ordering a new one will be a bit difficult, eh?

OK, I assume it's made of fiberglass and if that is the case, I would suggest contacting a few auto body shops in your area that specialize in fiberglass repair (like Corvettes) and see if they can repair it. Any good boat repair yard can do it but it'll probably cost a lot more, but it's worth a try as well. Best to hit the boat places during the off season for better pricing.

Good luck,
WetWilly

WetWilly's right. You just can't order those parts anymore. Repairing it is your best, and most likely your only option.

Thanks for the help so far!

I thought I had a chance with Challenger Offshore, as I ordered a couple of things from them when they first took the larger Molds from the original sale of Mariah Molds. But .... can't find them anymore on the WWW and phone numbers no longer work...

Didn't see this repair coming ~ I have gone to a fiberglass shop, and they will build a new one...... :shakehead:for lots of buck$.

My hopes is someones nightmare can be my little treasure - so I am trying some boat salvage yards to find one.... Or might try and fabricate a "new" cover for the step. It won't be exact repilca, but what ever design I go with would not be an eyesore either. That is a last resort, rather than have no cover.

Challenger called it quits a few months ago. Yet another casualty of this economy. They seemed like a decent boat builder, but terribly over priced.
