2000 Z302 Shabah, needs engine(502ci/8.2L)
 

Have a 2000 Z302 Shabah 502ci(8.2L). Located in Tampa Bay, FL area. Owned since almost new in Palm Beach, FL then moved to west coast of Florida. A few years ago I spent approximately 5 months, with my elderly father, pulling and rebuilding the factory 502 to better than factory condition, or so I thought. We replaced the complete transom assembly. Replaced the intake manifold, oil cooler, starter, fuel pump, alt, fuel injectors reconditioned, cleaned and painted EVERY nut and bolt. The long block was rebuilt by a local racing engine builder with the intent of make a little more hp and much stronger; titanium rods, roller rockers, balance, deck, etc. What I think went wrong is he made the custom push rods to long which resulted in breaking ALL of the new valve springs. As the springs were failing water was being ingested in the engine from the back-pressure. I ended up with a 'peanut butter' gel in the engine. That's where we stand today. No other mechanical damage to engine other than broken valve springs and rust to components from salt water. Attached a couple of photos. The drive has low hours on it. I kept breaking the factory ones so I upgraded to the 'X' drive, they make them beefer for diesel engines to handle the torque. Boat has been indoors in a warehouse ever since.

Was that the original engine for that boat? The exhaust tips look a little suspect. Also, who actually
rebuilt the engine? You stated that you and your elderly FIL spent months rebuilding to better
than factory. Then you say a local engine builder rebuilt the long block. If the local guy did this,
wasnt there a warranty with it? Do you have any engine pics?
