Default looking to buy a 1992 MX19 on saturday

Hi everyone I am looking at an 1992 mx19 with the 4.3L omc cobra setup. Assuming its in good enough shape mechanically I'll be taking her home with me. I've done some research on the originals and they sound like well built boats! I've owned a Hourston Glasscraft and a Glastron in the past. I am very excited. Anything special too look for on this model?

Cheers,

Ruggles

Hi ruggles, and welcome to the MOC! You're correct, Mariahs are well built boats!

The things to look for are primarily interior features. Mariah made a lot of their own parts inside the factory, so things like dashboards, storage lid tops, seat backs, bow rails, etc are incredibly hard to come by if they're damaged. Check these out very carefully. Other than that, motors and outdrive parts, as well as gauges, lights, interior vinyl, etc. can be easily sourced by vendors these days.

    Hope this helps!

Sweet! Thanks. Yeah I think just the seats are cracking which isn't a big deal. I may even attempt to recover them myself. I like to learn new skills. The only mechanical issue is shifting into gear when cold. I know the cobra outdrives are notorious for this but it can be fixed. I'll update the board if I buy it

I wouldn't get a omc cobra myself. Parts are expensive and they don't make cobras anymore. And not alot of shops work on them anymore.

Hey guys I bought it! So stoked to work on it. It's in pretty good shape. The only issue is it doesn't like to engage in to forward when cold. Ive read up on it and it seems to be a common issue with these legs. The shifting mechanism in the leg needs to be adjusted most likely. It goes into reverse just fine. Can't wait to dig in and learn more!

That's awesome. Congrats! My Mariah was the same year and model. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them. Great boat with a timeless look!

My brother has a boat with the OMC out back. It really was not too bad to work on. The biggest pain was the shift cable bellow. It leaked like a garden hose. That was a project and a half. PM for details.
His has a shifting issue just like yours. My merc mechanic buddy says its the ignition retarder that needs adjustment.
