Kill Switch Trouble

Does anyone know how to access the kill switch wiring from the throttle panel? The boat was running great, we flipped the kill switch a few times, and now we can get it to start. Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Kill Switch Trouble

Your post was a bit confusing.... now its working? And yes i suspect that you aren't the only person this has happened to... :)

If you still want to inspect your kill switch then what model of throttle assembly is on your boat?

IF it is a Commander 3000 (very popular) then here are the instructions to take it apart.

Look at this illustration at the wiring plug attached to #2 find yours and test the red wire of the plug that the one in the illustration plugs into for power. You don't have to dismantle the control to do that. The connection to that plug is behind the panel it is attached to. If there is power there, either one of the switch's (#2) are bad or the wiring in that handle is chafed thru (this is fairly common) or the wiring to back to the trim pump is bad.
To get at the switches and wiring in that handle, you must remove that handle by prying out #5 and removing bolt #6. Pay attention to the way it is assembled It's got to go back together that way.
once the handle is off take out screw #11 Don't loose the spring #4 or the washer #10 .
Then screw #8 comes out and you can work #1 off and access the switch's.
When you remove the handle inspect the wiring that is wrapped around the base and where it goes thru the panel for wear and exposed wires.

Note that this might be a good time to invest in a good manual or...become a contributing member and gain access to them here on our site.
