Welcome to MOC!
How about some photos to give us an idea what you are working with. There is a lot of info on here. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk |

Welcome aboard! As Moto says, a few pics would help out here. If you are looking for parts/decals etc have a look at the STICKYS located at the top of the MARKETPLACE page.

Re: 2000 222
That will be a fun project! I was expecting worse. There is a lot of info on here to begin with. I would suggest searching certain topics at a time. Like the Corsa exhaust, it comes up often and Im pretty sure there is someone on here that has added it.
Another cool thing on here- go through the "gallery" and look at the other 222's. It might help you notice things you could be missing. What do you know about the boat? Hours, fresh water? Taken care of? One of the first things I would do is fuel, oil, motor. Ethanol fuel sucks. It attracts water into your fuel. A fresh water separating fuel filter is a good start. Something to consider before diving into making it look sharp would be that outdrive. Pull the prop off and have a look at the prop shaft, seals, etc. Make sure it shifts nicely and the prop shaft does not wobble all over while it is spinning. Fresh oil is a good idea. See if you notice water(milky) or shavings in the old oil. Same with motor oil. If you dont know the history of the boat that is just a start. It would suck to make it look ready for the water but you cant take it out due to mechanical stuff. Before you do anything to that dash and gauge cluster realize it cant be replaced. The plastic is brittle and it will snap. Next to super glue you will be up a creek! Magic Eraser works well for cleaning upholstery if soap & water wont cut the grime. I even like powder laundry detergent. Muriatic acid will clean the white scum off the outdrive. Just be careful where you use it- the acid will etch concrete. Just brush it on and hose it off. It dilutes easily. As for painting a patch, I have not heard of that. It has a gel coat. A good fiberglass guy should be able to match your current color fairly well. (Its like a fiberglass shower/bathtub, they get a nick down to the fiber but it is fixable). |

Re: 2000 222
Thanks I have had the engine torn down I ported the heads bigger cam 4bbl carb 1,6 roller rocker so on. The engine is a jasper engine replaced in 04, not impressed buy there work. Hours unkown no meter its gone. It was a turd in the water only about 38 mph at wot. The gel coat is horrible the whole boat would have to be redone. It had big holes and deep scraps down the sides. I just don't have the funds for that. I heard there a marine paint I can use to paint. We have emailed a guy on here about decals but no response from here. I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought this boat. I didn't know Mariah was no longer or I would not have bought it. bad mistake I guess. Well I hope not. Corsa is to pricy for me to. Its missing the head rest on the bench seat, hand rail in back, hour meter. and all Decals.

Re: 2000 222
Some other avenues to painting might be a decal wrap. Lots of wake boats doing that. Another idea just working with what you have. Basic buffing stuff here.
These boats are built well. I'm sure yours will clean up nice |
Re: 2000 222
Just because the original Mariah company no longer exists isn't a reason to avoid buying one of their boats. The boats are generally solid and very well made. Most parts are still available with only the glass and interior trim pieces being hard to find but you just have to look around a bit. It wouldn't be any different if you bought a Sea-Ray or Four Winns in that condition cuz neither manufacturer would have original parts still available for a 13-14 yr old boat. Actually you might be one of the lucky ones regarding the glass as Taylormade (original mfr) may still have the molds available for your model year in the event you ever have to replace a section.
As for the decals guy you emailed, Mike Eftink (Eftinkboats on eBay) can be difficult to reach at times. I find him easier to reach via Facebook or directly via eBay. He is your only good source though for original graphics/decals/badges etc. As i mentioned earlier and Moto reminded you about, our Marketplace is your friend.... |
Re: 2000 222
Agree with other members on this one! I bought a Mariah last year. It wasn't as bad as you say yours is, but I knew it was heading south due to a crappy pervious owner. I didn't know the original Mariah was out of business when I bought my boat and adter finding this site I couldn't care less. Yes it makes a few things hard to fix or replace, BUT members on here have found a way to get it done! Even rebuilding and reprinting the dash pieces! I bought my boat because, next to all the other turds... look out Mikey here it comes... like Bayliners and others with rotted floors and standard looks, the Mariah was absolutely awesome! It felt like I was buying a boat way above my class.... And owning one and belonging to this owners club makes me feel special, and that my Mariah is special. It's not a $100k wake boat but my family loves it and it's way more boat than I'd ever thought I'd find
in the middle of summer for less than $5k. All that being said, you bough a very well built boat. They used the best vinyl and you'll be surprised what magic erasers will do! If the vinyl is not torn, clean it and use it till it does! If you want to redo the vinyl pm me and I'll give you detail on similar vinyl to what was used originally. I am in the process of wet sanding, compounding, polishing and waxing the hull. It looks like new! (more or less...) If yours is that bad, West Marine sells paint for boats, it's for gelcoats but it's still going to look like paint not gelcoat. However I have seen some pretty friggin' cool paint jobs on boats. One guy has a flame job that looks really good, so it can be done. I do think a wrap might be pretty awesome too! Think of those possibilities!! You obviously aren't afraid of hard work, you bought the boat and are doing it yourself! It gets discouraging and overwhelming at times, I know, I'm there with you right now! Just stay at it and take little pieces at a time. Stay encouraged, when you are done you will have a very well built and very nice boat! Welcome to the family! Mike, the guy that does stickers can be found on ebay, that's how I got a hold of him. It will take a while. It took about 2-3 weeks for me to contact him and figure out if he had my 99 decals or not. Guess what... HE did!! and the Mariah logos and shield too!! Send him a message on ebay and he will get back to you. Good luck and keep us posted with lots of pictures!! And you made a good choice on buying a Mariah! Matt in GA |
Re: 2000 222
Thank For The Encouragement! My Boat Was Very Badley Keep,Never Coverd,Body Heavley Dameged, Missing Parts,And Broken Parts.Ect... But I went Through The Moter Had Some Parts Put In.New Came,Roller Rockers 4Bbl, Carb and Intake, Ported Heads Ect.... The Body I Got Almost Done Fixing All The Holes And Deep Scraps With Gell Coat. But It Does Not Mach right. But I Gonna Buff The Hell Out Of It For This Summer And Run It. The Inter.IS Shoot No Magic Eraser Can Fix It. But It Is What It Is And Ill fix It up.

Re: 2000 222
Don't worry the guy that owned mine before beat the he'll out of thr bottom of mine and the shop that tried to fix it did a crappy job. I now get to redo most of their work with a lot of sanding and new patch work done correctly. I'll never be happy with the bottom but oh well. If it doesn't leak, I'm good. I can't see it in the water anyway... Lol.

Re: 2000 222
I think the guy beached mine on rocks while tied up to a wall of white bumpers.. it was covered with scratches the decals are all dug up and there were so many white bumper marks I cleaned them off with paint thinner!! Replacing the graphics, buffing and doing what touch up I can this year. Will do more next year. Nothing a bit of hard work can't fix. And it's a original Mariah so its worth it!!
