oil pan leak 1992 diablo 3.0 cobra
 

I just purchased a 1992 mariah diablo with a 3.0 litre 4 cyl.It looks like when the engine was originally install a bilge pump had allready been installed and the oil pan sits on top of it.The oil pan is leaking where the bilge pump has worn the paint off the pan and rusted through.My question is if I smash the bilge pump and get it out of the way will the oil pan roll out of there?It looks like there is enough clearance.

First off welcome to MOC GW! :)

As for pulling your 3.0L pan , I doubt it will come out without at least lifting the motor from the mounts. Spinning the crank to move the journals up might help , but don't forget the oil pump pickup tube.
Trying to do that job in confined space is a PITA.

I know there is no way I'd try it with my 4.3L V6.

Maybe one of the other guys have dealt with the 3.0L more and can give you more help.:wink_thumbup:

Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply!I may give it a try.I have pulled oil pans on cars and was not able to drop them out until dropping the pickup into the pan but I think the pan will drop enough to get a wrench on the pickup bolts to drop it down.I was thinking about raising the engine a bit also.

I'm more intrigued about a plastic bilge pump wore through the sump pan???

The plastic bilge pump I believe with engine and hull vibration has worn the paint off the pan under the bilge pump and has rusted through enough to cause a small leak
I am in Key Largo untill the end of March and will not be pulling the pan until my last week here before heading back to Ontario.I just bought the boat 2 weeks ago to leave here for next year and still am able to use it as is.
