New to boating-what do I have
2 Attachment(s)
My wife wanted a pontoon boat to cruise around on, so I looked on craigslist to see whats there. I own a auto repair shop so something in need of some repairs is what I look for. I found a listing for a 2001 Malibu Mariah for $1950. He said it had a blown headgasket and would cost 500 to 800 to fix it. Well my first thought is a cracked block.
When I start to research about it I can't find a Malibu Mariah. So I find the Mariah owners club and wallah. So I now own a Mariah. When I looked at the engine I see a freeze plug pushed out. Yep it has froze and cracked the block. I told him it would have to have a new engine. We negotiate for alittle bit. I get for $1500. We pulled the engine out and disassemble, cracked in lifter galley. I have a replacement block and parts at machine shop. We hope to have together and back in before next weekend. Now my question is what do I have? Here is the model # |

You have a 2001 180 Diablo. It's definitely a Diablo as it has no stainless bow rails in the front, and no mid-ship cleats. But, that's a great deal on the boat if the engine can be replaced at a reasonable cost!

Re: New to boating-what do I have
Well I am still waiting on parts from machine shop. I hope summer doesn't run out before I can get on the water. I have a couple of races coming up, so time will be tight.
I got it cleaned up. Rebuilt seat over engine cover. Got a new cover on it. I noticed the gas cap is broken, where is a good place to start looking. |
