Hello again

After a few more questions and looking over and around we made an offer on the boat. The stainless skeg was installed by the PO when he went fishing in finger lakes region. He mentioned that it was put on for safety reasons and showed that it was clean and painted beneath. It came with a complete canvas enclosure for the cabin area with clear windows. We offered $9000 complete out the door to include all taxes, licenses and registrations and they accepted.
I would like to clean the hull some. What type of machine and waxes do you use for boats. Is it similar to taking care of your car?

Sounds like the two of you did okay Brian. That 20' Talari Z package will be a nice boat. The SS skeg is a good idea if there's a chance that you might hit an underwater obstacle. We've done a number of other threads on cleaning hulls and interior vinyl but as a quick response.....mr clean pads work wonders on bringing back the original colour of your vinyl seats & trim. Meguairs cleaning & wax products work well on the hull but use marine wax and not car wax as marine wax is formulated to work better with the gelcoat. There are a few other products that work well & there are marine oxidisation (is that a word?) removers out there that work similar to a polishing compound for cars. Just make sure you do a wax job afterward. Some people like the rotary polishers and some like the oscillating polishers but for me good old elbow grease does the job.

Meguiars makes great marine products, and they have never let me down. If you want to do a serious waxing that'll make your boat shine like it was brand new, Meguiars makes a kit called the "Fiberglass Restoration Kit". It's 3 parts, one part oxidation remover, a high gloss polish, then a carnuba wax. Takes a bit of elbow grease and an afternoon to get it all finished, but you'll have a showroom shine when you're finished.

For washing & waxing, I recommend their "New Boat Owners Kit" which contains their Flagship wash and wax, along with a Quick Clean spray.

Both of these kits are about $30 each, and well worth the investment, to keep your boat looking great. You can get them at the local marine supply shop, I get mine at the Bass Pro Shops.

Detailing

We pick up the boat this Wednesday. They are going to run it and go over all the controls and extras. They also agreed to detail the boat for me inside and out. To include exterior waxing. They are also throwing in the Mequirs detail kit. I use Mequirs products on my vehicles. I restore British cars, the Triumph Marque and we have four Triumphs in the family. We are really excited about this. I measured out the new garage and it will fit along with the XC90 and the Triumphs so it will stay in a climate controlled environment. Woo Hoo!

Wow Brian, sounds you're all set! You'll have to post some pics of the boat, your garage, and the triumphs, I've always been a fan of the Triumphs, such classic pieces of motorcar history!!!:wink_thumbup:

old Brit sports cars.....sigh. I used to have a MGB for about 9 yrs but kids & family ruled out keeping it. My brother-in-law has his completely restored TR6 that i drool over but i would really like a Triumph Stag in French or Tahiti Blue or possibly a Sunbeam Tiger (series 2) in British Racing Green. All i gotta do is figure out how to pay for it. :(

On my wall here in my home office i have a couple of display cases full of Brit car models (mostly 'Vanguards'), a couple of Triumph posters and an old English licence plate to remind me of my young and free days.....

That must have been a long, loooong, loooooooooooooong time ago :rolling_laugh:

i can recall what it was like to eat nothing but dinosaur meat every Friday night.... :D
