Having problems with my boat backfiring through the carburetor I can't figure it out. I don't know if it's the coil pack for the ecm any and all help welcome please contact me via email or pm. wink_thumbup:

There can only be one cause for backfire in 4 stroke engines; timing of the valve and ignition. Think about it... when the spark occurs and the intake valve is open to ignite the fuel in the intake manifold it "backfires" through the carb.

Let me say it more directly; IF valve timing is correct and the ignition timing is set correctly it is impossible to get carburetor backfire because there is no ignition source to ignite the incoming fuel.

The only other thing i can think of that might contribute to the above is a stuck float in the carb.
