1996 Mariah Shabah 200 oil change
I want to change my oil on my 96 Shabah. Is it hard to do? What oil do you recommend and how many quarts? Does it have a drain plug or do I need to pump out the old oil through the dip stick?
Thanks for your help! Nathan |

Changing the engine oil is reasonably easy with an electric marine oil extraction pump and i use Sierra 25w-40 marine engine oil myself. If you figure you can do it by draining thru the sump have a look down there. There isn't much room and it can be very messy. What motor do you have? A 5.0 & the 5.7 both take 5 1/2 US quarts.

I agree, use the pump. I change mine every season and use Moblile One. I have the 5.7

I would say use a manual pump unless you are buying one of the very expensive electric ones. Every service shop i've seen uses manual pumps. A decent manual pump will cost you about $50.

I use the Mercuriser hose that bolts in where the oil plug is. you just stick the hose down through the Transom drain plug opening, and it drains all the oil out in about 15 minutes. The hose was about 60 dollars at a local stealership, but online they are only about 20-30 dollars. . No mess, I love it.
