Hello All,
Recently signed up to the site. We own a 1993 MX 200 Talari with a 4.3 LX with a Next Gen II Alpha One Out Drive. We have owned it for 6 years. It is a great boat. Recently during the oil change change I found the oil was a very milky color. Last season the engine ran fine, I have had no other indications of any mechanical issues. Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this problem? Thanks |
Re: New Member
Milky indicates water. Hopefully the water doesn't indicate a cracked head.

Welcome aboard JB! I agree with Dredd.....milky indicates water in the oil and if its the engine oil you've got some work ahead of you.
btw...when you get a moment, dont forget to "pin" yourself on our Member Map. See the link under "Community" above. |
Re: New Member
What is the best way to pin point the leak?

Re: New Member
Hi jb57, sorry to hear about your issue, now hopefully its a blown head or manifold gasket or your exhaust manifolds are bad allowing water to flow back into the heads, but I would suspect you would notice a rough running motor if that were the case. Worst case scenario is a cracked block and since it appears to be an internal leak, short of dissembling the various parts and thoroughly examining the manifolds, block, and heads, there really isn't a way to "pin point" the leak that I know of. One way to verify a motor leak is to plug up the water hose from the inlet to the motor and the hoses leading to the exhaust manifolds, effectively sealing the motor cooling system, then to pressurize the motor with 5 to 10 psi of air and look for signs of pressure leak down. The block had a hair line crack on the underside of the block. I had to remove the engine and oil pan. Lots of work. Bought serviceable block and had it rebuilt last summer (September 2012)

Re: New Member
Glad to hear you figured it out. Have you been able to get it on the water yet?

Re: jb57
Will have her ready this spring. Taking care of miscellaneous repairs that I have been putting off.
