350 vs 454
 

Hi,

I have not actually bought a Mariah boat yet but I have looking at two and going to buy one both are 214 jubilee's one is a 350 and the other a 454.

Any imput or suggestions as to which one might be better?

There is always the sentiment that there is no substitute for cubic inches. But I will tell you, with the price of fuel where it is I would be looking at the 350.. Unless you are looking for ultimate top end, both motors are going to cruise at similar RPM, and both will have lots of power to push a boat that size. So really it comes down to you, your budget, and how you are going to use the boat. If fuel price is no issue than bigger is better. If possible you should water test both boats. Start with the smaller engine and see what you think. The 454 will be faster but it may not add to your enjoyment of the boat. And it could also negatively affect resale. Just my two cents.

22empire is right. Here's something else to think of. My research shows the 214 Jubilees were never equipped with a 454. The engines available were the 4.3L, the 5.0L and the 350 Mag. So either the boat is mis-listed, or the 454 was swapped in. And honestly, a 454 is WAY too much engine for a 214 Jubilee. The 350 Mag is showing top speeds of 60mph. They did however offer the 454 in the 244 Jubilee, so maybe it's mis-listed?

At any rate, I'd go with the 350. It has great performance numbers, has better fuel economy, and would be perfectly suited for that size boat.

Thanks for the imput. The 454 is at a dealership in Perris, CA so maybe it was mislabled and is actually the 24' Jubilee. 60 miles per hour for the 350, holy S### that is faster then I would ever want to go on a deckboat so that should be plenty of horsepower and with the price of gas a better choice.
