excited new member has question.

having problems with power steering in mercruiser 7.4L. The hose from the rack to the cooler is blowing at the cooler just above the clamp. Thinking it was just a bad spot in the hose I cut about 3 inches off and simply reclamped it down. Filled with fluid and bleed the air out and within a couple of minutes it blew again. Have redone this 4 times and continues to blow a hole in the hose in the same spot. I took off that hose from the rack to the cooler at the cooler and I took off the . hose from the reservoir to the cooler at the cooler and blower from the back of the cooler to the front thinking it was blocked but could blow through it very easily. I reattached both hoses back at the cooler, then took off the hose from the reservoir to the cooler at the reservoir and blowed all the way through the system. Air was blown through that hose, through the cooler, through the hose from cooler to rack, then it was blown through the rack, then through the hose from rack back up to the reservoir which Im pretty sure is the high pressure line, then with the cap off the air was coming through the reservoir. So obviously their are no blockages in system with it cool or not running, but will blow every time it is respliced and put back on and rebleed. Was told that the cooler was probably stopped up, but blowed through everthing fine, and now not sure what would be blowing a low pressure hose about 2 inches above the clamp on cooler. please help.

Hi mrickey,

I'm curious how long have you had your Mariah before this started to happen?

Yes, it's odd that the low pressure return keeps blowing, is it possible that this section of hose is just worn out out from age and heat or could it have been replace long ago with a hose that wasn't quite rated for the line pressure and is just now failing?

I just purchased the boat and cant find any psi rating on the hose but hose looks to be in almost new condition, but that may not be the case on the inside of the hose. I am going to replace the hose in the next couple of days and try that. If this dont work I am not sure what to do. Thanks for your information, and if you can think of anything else please let me know. Mickey
