should I buy???

1997 216 PC Talari 260 hp mercruiser in Arkansas...Anyone have any opinions? Good price?

Thanks in advance...Justin

Good price? You forgot to post up the price :D

As long as the hull is in good shape, upholstery is cared for and the motor and sterndrive unit have been maintained, it could very well be. Might be worthwhile to have an honourable mechanic inspect it as well.

Take a look around this webpage, there are numerous threads on new boat owners and what they should be looking for.

If you have any good sized photos of the vessel. Post them up. There are a LOT of eagle eye members on here that might spot something that others might miss.

You could have a courtesy vessel check done on it as well. Check the condition the tarps and hopefully you can take it out on the water for a test drive.

Keep us updated on the progress. Don't be scared to ask the owner any stupid questions you may have.

Hi Justin and welcome to the club,

Everything 180diablo said is absolutely correct, except the part about "stupid" questions, remember, there are no "stupid" questions, only "stupid" answers, so if you're in doubt, ask away! :wink_thumbup:

But seriously, you can check at NADA Boats "Click Here" , add any additional accessories for a ball park value for the 216 PC. Another thing, the values given do not include a trailer so remember to factor that back in if it comes with one.

Lastly, it's very important to verify how well the Talari's been maintained to avoid possible big dollar issues down the road.

Good luck, keep us posted,
WetWilly

Did 180diablo really say that?:confused: (snicker)..... oops :rolling_laugh:

Well you guys know what I meant.... I hope? I didn't meant to insult Justins question asking ability if that is how it came out.? If so then I do apologize. I was just trying to give him a boost in confidence is all.

Ask whatever questions you want. I didn't have any reserve when it comes to asking a question. When I was looking at my Diablo with the marina owners I bet they thought I was strange. I wanted to know the entire boats detailed life history within about 10 minutes. I had no idea what I was really getting myself into and if I didn't ask any questions, then I suffered in silence not knowing.

If I asked them something which I though seemed strange/odd and I actually get a reply, how stupid was it really? If you don't ask you wont know.

I'll go back to sleep now.. :(

Ryan brings up a good point. Asking as many questions as you can IS a good idea. Buying a boat is a big step, especially if it's something you're not familiar with. It's not like they have a "Carfax" like reporting system for boats. (well, they sort of do, but its twice as expensive, and has MUCH MUCH less info)

Marine Surveying is always an option, I believe it's required for boats over 26 ft, but having a qualified surveyor check out the boat ahead of time would be worth the money, especially if you're not familiar with boating. Don't trust the Marina or previous owner, as they're just trying to make a sale. Take it for a test drive, have the engine checked by a certified Mercruiser or Volvo mechanic (not just the owner's buddy who knows about engines).

Glad you ended up buying the boat though! I'm sure you'll be very happy with it, and remember, we're all here to answer any questions you may have. We built this site as a place for Mariah resources, and our members are the most helpful and loyal ones around.

And I'll vouch for 180diablo here, he didn't mean to offend anyone. He's one of the most friendly members on the board. He's Canadian, so you'll have to forgive him. :D
