New member/owner! Questions regarding wiring
Hi all! New owner of a 1994 talari z210 and am trying to fix the electrical mistakes that were caused by the previous owner, not sure why they did what they did but this is where I’m at! I have been troubleshooting some gauges and the wiring behind them and the last thing I’m trying to figure out is why my hour meter has a purple wire and a pink wire connected to it! According to the wire schematics that I have found it should be purple and black (ground) , does anyone have any pics of the back of their gauge cluster that I could see and use as a reference because it all looks factory back there and not like it’s been messed with , also from my understanding the pink wire is the sending wire for fuel but my wire coupler has two pink wires that don’t make sense to me from the schematics that I have found , all other gauges work as they should now as I can see,
Thanks in advance |
Re: New member/owner! Questions regarding wiring
Hi and Welcome to the club. I don; know the answer to your question, but the wiring schematics you downloaded are the best starting point. I'm also chasing down some electrical issues and the wires I have don't all match the colors on the schematic, so I feel your pain. Hopefully someone more familiar with your model boat will pop on soon. This group gets very quiet over the winter months, but comes alive again in spring.

Re: New member/owner! Questions regarding wiring
I do not have the same model as you but I recall that on my Z280 the wiring followed the Mercruiser schematic and wire colors in the Mercruiser manual. I would review that schematic, assuming you have access to the Merc manual.

I have the same year and model boat as you and I am trying to solve the trim gauge not working. I can try to take pictures of the back of my hour meter and send it to you. I am getting ready for a trip and leave on Sunday morning so I am not sure if I can do it before then or after the 24th when I return. Were you able to remove your gauge cluster? I unscrewed mine and pulled it back as far as the wires would allow. I see a large disconnect but it seemed like there were other wires that would have to be removed as well. I elected to not remove it as i only needed to access the back of the trim gauge to confirm it worked. My sender is new. I need a wiring diagram to proceed. You mentioned you downloaded one. Was it from this site? Maybe you can point me to where I can find one? Bob |

There is a "Control Unit" between the trim gauge sender and the trim gauge that I suspect to be the problem, either in the unit itself or one of the 8 wires that goes to it. |
