Default Engine Trouble

I'm a new member here. I have enjoyed my 1997 C211 Talari since purchasing it in 2007. I'd had trouble with the starter last year, after replacing the battery but I made it through the season. This year it wouldn't start so after charging the battery and I even replaced the starter it still doesn't start. I get the normal tone when I turn the key on but only hear a click from engine compartment. I tried holding key in start position for 2-3 seconds and multiple attempts, but nothing more happens. I've checked the kill switch and that it's in neutral.

clean every connection so they are shiny enough to eat on, especially the grounds. make sure your battery has around 13 volts or more.

Does your engine have a starter solenoid, maybe integrated with the starter itself? If you replaced both the starter and battery, the solenoid may be bad if it isn't part of the new starter. I'm not sure what you have there.

and double check all connections as suggested too.

Check the slave solenoid usually located on the top of the engine near the red reset button. It receives the start signal from the keyswitch and relays a it to the solenoid on the starter. If the internal contacts on the slave solenoid are carboned up it will not pass enough current to engage the solenoid on the starter.
