Hello to everyone

I am really glad that I was able to find this forum. I have had my 1996 mariah z255 shabah for about 2 yrs now and absolutley love it. I am having a few problems that I hope someone will be able to help me out with. First off my steering is creating some pretty serious problems. It is very difficult to steer the boat and I have just replaced the power steering pump. I am now assuming that it is the steering cable. Does anyone know how long of a cable and who makes the cable? Also how difficult is it to change it out? My next problem is my captains choice exhaust. I just put it in the water for the first time this summer last week and everything sounded good at first. Now My exhaust arent making any noise. I am guessing that my flaps are staying closed because I have power to the switch. Is there a way to reset this? Any information provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Drew Burton

Welcome to the board Drew!

The steering cable is made by a company called Teleflex. Not sure what model, but I'm sure a phone call to them directly could probably answer that question for you. I can imagine replacing it might be a little bit of a challenge, but could be done with the right amount of patience.

As far as your Captain's Call, start with the switch. Check the contacts and make sure they're clean and free of corrosion. Corrosion is a common problem with the wiring on Mariahs. They just need to be periodically cleaned. I believe there is also an inline fuse for power to the diverters. Check for that, and replace if necessary. Let us know if the problem continues and we'll try and help more.

PS Cooler, Assist Cylinder and Corsa Test Description

Actually your problem is most likely not the cable. You can detach it from the assist cylinder and crank the wheel to see if it is the cable or not. The cables very rarely go bad and most are not serviceable.

I would guess it is actually your power steering cooler, are you loosing power steering fluid? It will actually go through a crack in the cooler and into your exhaust stream and cause the system to not make enough pressure.

You can also look for a problem with your assist cylinder but this usually is accompanied by fluid in your bilge.

For your captains call try the attached test, if your solenoids are shot, $75 ea from Corsa.
