new comer from Kansas City

hey guys, new to the site obviously. the wife and I and about to purchase a 1990 Mariah 2150 XL. looking forward to see all the information I can gather. we decided to purchase a used boat because we are essentially getting our feet wet in the boating realm. this is our first boat and so hopefully a lot of learning comes from our new experiences.

Kenny

PS. tried accessing the "owners brochure " however I think I'm too green to access it :D

You could always read one or two of those STICKYS located at the top of the Introductions Forum... or even the forum FAQ's.

Given that you haven't yet spent your $$ ? It might be worth reading this STICKY entitled 'Buying a Used Mariah'.

Thanks! Yeah we went thru and took it for a test ride, we had them fire it up, checked for soft spots as well as dings in the hull and underneath the boat. I went thru and spent about 20 minutes looking for problems. (obviously since I'm new to this I'm sure I overlooked some things) All-in-All the boat seems pretty sound, The motor fired right up no issues (since there isn't a true maintenance record, I'm taking it in for an Oil Change, Tune up and Waterpump. Already contacted the service dept for fee's and when I can schedule. They're also going to look over everything as a precaution. Yeah, that's a dangerous situation as there are always things you could fix/improve on an older boat, but I've got some friends whom have grown up on the water so I can always ask them. My biggest thing is trying to figure out the actual horsepower because there are 3 different power levels for this year and model. I know its the 350 alpha I, but I am not sure if thats the 260 or 330 one. Obviously A lot to learn on my end (reason why we aren't buying a more expensive boat right now because we want to be able to learn on a smaller boat). And thanks again for the quick reply!
