Floor issues

Hey guys, the floor of my 95' Barchetta 182 was sagging in a few places. Pulled out the seats and carpet. There is some rotted plywood which was expected. The fiberglass from the sides meets up with the plywood but it is hard to see where. There is a small ridge close to the floor so I guess that is where they meet. I will be pulling out the rotted wood today. I don't want to damage the seam between the fiberglass and plywood so I will cut out what is necessary. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks, G.

Pulled up 5 pieces that were rotten. Two of the small stringers close to the well were rotted to crumbs. I have a few ideas to fix them but would appreciate any thoughts. Guys, this is a project you do not want to do so keep your carpet clean and dry!!!

It did indeed. But it was no fun and I don't ever want to do it again. Learned a lot. Here are some pics.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8118d473a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5375099132.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...468a97b702.jpg

This is my winter project. Both seats have pulled free, was able to temp fix it for the season but it's not going to last.

Where did you get your carpet from?

Re: Floor issues

Carpet was from Lowes, it has the rubber backing. Initially bought outdoor carpet from Home Depot without the backing. The carpet glue came right thru!! Had to rip it right out.

I didn't think that a 98 had any wood in the floor. Wasn't that the year they started using only fiberglass floors?

Re: Floor issues

It has a wood floor and fuses with the fiberglass toward the sides. It was a bear to cut out, trying to stay with the wood and not chip the fiberglass. It was a good learning experience. Any questions I'd be glad to answer them.

Re: Floor issues

It would appear that Mariah may have abandoned the fiberglass floor sometime in 99. The 98 brochure clearly describes it as being used in all models and I know that my 99 has a fiberglass floor. It seems that from maybe 2000, they went back to the older method of encapsulating the wooden floor as before.

Remember GaryDoug, my Barchetta is 95. Most of the wood was in good shape, stringers too. The rot was around the seat pedestals and walking area that gets the most water.

If you look at my first post, it should be obvious that I was not replying to you.
