new member needs to pull out gas tank

Thanks for the opportunity to become a member.
I have a 1996 215 Talari that I just bought. The boat belonged to my brother and hasn't been in the water in 10 years. It only has 60 hours use on the boat. I took it to a marina and they tried to crank it. The motor turned over very easily but would not fire. The marina was two weeks behind in work and suggested I pull out the gas tank and make sure the old gas did not gel in the tank. It is half full and has been there for 10 years. I would buy a maintenance manual if I could find one. Looks like the carpet in front of the engine needs to be cut out to remove the tank. Does anyone have any knowledge of this or know where I can buy a maintenance manual.
Thanks,
Steve Noble

Welcome to the club! The owners manuals are very generic and did not have specific info. Do a search of the site to see if you can find any info. Shade mechanic myself and new to boats I can't help you, but please let us know how it goes.

Re: new member needs to pull out gas tank

I tried to get a look at my tank once (Z202). I removed the center rear seat cushion and saw that there was an insert in the top of the box below the cushion that could be removed once the carpet was cut around the insert. Even then, the seat box was slightly out of position and I could not get the bottom inner panel out without cutting it out. Since I had no issue with the tank at the time, I settled with just prying it up a bit and taking a photo of the tank's label. Had I needed to get it out, a little more cutting would have been all that was needed.
Your boat may not be constructed the same.
