Ignition problem

Thanks for making this forum available. I am new the the forum and have a current issue I am trying to resolve. I have a 2000 Mariah Shaba 222 5.7 Bravo 3. I am having a problem with the ignition. When I turn the key on, the gauges all work and everything seems fine. I then try to start the boat. Nothing happens. I try a few times and it finally engages the starter and starts. It runs fine one it starts. I thought it was the ignition switch and replaced it but it is still doing the same thing. Would it be at the starter or shifter? Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Welcome to the club! Several guys around here should be able to help, sorry I am just a shade mechanic. Did you check the wiring to the starter?

Sounds like a ground or solenoid problem to me.. Maybe hudson river steve will chime in, he seems to know a whole lot when it comes to troubleshooting motor issue's.
Did you test @ solenoid?

My mechanic says it's due to a bad neutral safety switch he says it's a inexpensive part but is difficult time get too my mechanic didn't have the part so he had to order it from Mercruizer according to my mechanic he says it's the switch that prevents the prop(s) from moving while starting it in gear as a safety precaution the engine will not start hope this helped!

Thanks for the suggestions on ignition problem. It was the slave solenoid and was an easy fix.
