Carb tuning

So the boat was a bit rich last year. Harder starts w closed throttle after running around pulling and playing. If you opened the throttle ( like you would a flooded engine she starts right up, albeit with a strong fuel smell from the exhaust)
Anyone have a link to a carb tuning or baseline settings to start with? A search for carb didn't turn up much.
The boat is a 1999 shabah 5.7 with a 2 barrel, alpha one.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Carb tuning

Hey ga ,
Set the float level up(float valve shut) @ 10mm
Set the float drop @ 27mm
Both settings from top of bowl with gasket in place
Do not push down on the valve seat when adjusting , use some small needle nose to bend the tab. Otherwise it scars the needle end of the valve
Set the idle mixture screws out 1 1/4 turns to start and go from there
After you have it dialed in set choke , I always just play with it(never could see the marks on the cover very well:()

Hope that helps a little anyway:)

Awesome info. Definately understand as I'm used to motorcycle carbs. What is the refrence point on the float?

Re: Carb tuning

Use forward end of float for both settings.

Re: Carb tuning

I am assuming the top edge of the float?

Re: Carb tuning

And will I need any gaskets if I pull the carb off?

Re: Carb tuning

Top edge of float for upper setting , bottom edge of float for down side setting
Probably gonna need a rebuild kit ga
The gaskets have a tendency of drying out
I'd get a rebuild kit ,clean the carb up good with carb cleaner , reassemble
Use compressed air if possible while cleaning
Bottom gasket from manifold to carb gets hard as a rock with heat. Then you'll end up with a vacuum leak , sucking air - causing more issues if you don't replace it
