Muriatic acid for white outdrive
I have my outdrive off right now and thought Id clean it up since it had some of that white build up on it. The easiest way to clean it turned out to be with a 80 cent brush from walmart and a 6$ jug of Muriatic acid. It only took a small yogurt cup half full to clean the whole upper drive. Pretty amazing! Brush it on and hose it off. Clean as new!

I did not expect it to clean up this easy and fast. |

Nice! I've used CLR in the past but that really cleans well!!
Did it take any paint , and did it do anything to the decals? |
Muriatic acid for white outdrive
Where did you purchase the acid from?

Pool & Spa store maybe?

Re: Muriatic acid for white outdrive
It did nothing to the paint or metal parts. You can buy it at Walmart or a paint store. I was surprised I did not have any in the garage. We use it to etch concrete before painting or epoxy coating it.
The 6$ jug is a gallon I think. To do what I did took a cup of acid or less. It did not take much at all. Just dont let it drip on your concrete... Not that I did, Im just saying. Gloves are a good idea too. This stuff tingles your skin and shortly after it burns. Just FYI! |
Re: Muriatic acid for white outdrive
In the first "after" picture you can see the acid I used. It was the best acid I have ever used. It did not burn my nose at all! Usually when one uses it on concrete it tears you up. It is some "green" formula...

Re: Muriatic acid for white outdrive
I also used the acid on the exhaust tips. Cleaned them up like new. Just polish the fine stuff out.
I like the Rex. I think it will be money well spent. |

I might have missed it but did it do any damage to the stickers? |
Re: Muriatic acid for white outdrive
It has not damaged anything I have noticed, aside from concrete. And the green acid does not smell as strong as the regular stuff I used for etching concrete. I guess it is just a safer blend, vapor wise.
