Steering cable replacement/repair?

Think that our shifting/steering cable is going, or needs lube, or something...hard to turn, boat goes forward when it's supposed to be in neutral, etc.

Approx. how much does a repair/replacement cost ?

Re: Steering cable replacement/repair?

hi Jan,

You do seem to have a lot of problems with your boat. ;) Note that the steering cable and shift cable are two separate items. The "How Do I..." site will help you with adjusting/lubricating/replacing your shift cables as well as your steering cables. There is also a good video on You Tube regarding the throttle & shift cable and eHow gives some decent instructions on the steering cable for a 4.3 here. Unfortunately, i dont know the $$ of having a mechanic do this work.

Hi Mikey
What can I say:shakehead:...stuff happens, and neither I nor the DH are very mechanically competent when it comes to engines. My father must be rolling over in his grave b/c he could fix anything and was a great mechanic, but I didn't inherit the gene, unfortunately...add in a little bit of OCD, and there you go .. my issues.

The site link for Mercruiser is great...I'll give them a ring and check out the other links...
Thanks again!

I hear you Jan. :) I figure most things out by doing a little research then attempting to fix it myself and living & learning with whatever mistakes i make.....and i've made a lot with more to come.
