starting issue

Hello

Here is my problem. When i try to start it i get a click and as i keep trying it will just start to turn over then nothing. As in nothing i mean no click when i try to start it. At the key i have 0 amps with the key at the on position the fuel guage goes to full and the tach pegs out. when i remove the positive or ground cables at the battery and put them back on i can start the whole process over again. I am leaning towards the starter has a problem. I bought it new last year and had no problems with it...

To get it to "try" to start takes a few turns. if i jump the slave it does the 1/2 a secound "try" to start instantly

The battery has been tested and is fine.

When i stored it last year everything worked fine. i just pulled it out of storage with this problem.

this is a 1994 mariah barchetta z192 with 4.3L merc

Sounds like a battery problem to me?

Re: starting issue

You either have a battery with dead cells or you have a dead short in the system somewhere, good chance the starter. I'm assuming you had the bettery checked somwhere with the proper equipment, not just putting a meter on it. Most autoparts stores can also check the starter, so you may want to do that also. Finding a short is always difficult. Good luck.

You could also read the 'sticky' entitled Starter Diagnostic Procedures at the top of this forum.

Re: starting issue

yes mikey i checked out your tutorial and thank you for that! I took the battery to autozone and they said it was ok. the weird thing is when this happens its like it needs a reset. i pull one of the battery terminals and put it on and it will start clicking then when it tries to start boom dead again. my luck it will be a short.

thanks for the reply's

i sanded every connection i could find and when i jumped the slave she fired right up. Weird thing is the slave tested good. After running for 3 mins she died and will only turn over. getting no fuel to the carb. One problem to the next!! lol
