Custom cockpit covers or convertible top with aft curtains

Don't know which to get made.

Either way, I suppose someone has to install the receiving ends of the snaps into the fiberglass and the windows, right?

The top rail of my windows have snaps already in place (factory installed) since I have one of those complicated factory convertible tops. However, I have no other snaps anywhere else.

I'd like to eventually (another project for another time...$$$) have a custom cockpit cover made or at least a matching aft curtain for my existing convertible top. However, I'm not sure about letting someone drill holes and installing snaps into my fiberglass. Do most custom canvas and vinyl shops do this part of the custom build?

I've seen several owners in this site having cockpit covers and custom curtains made. Did all of you have the canvas shop install the snaps? Is it fairly routine, or is it an undertaking that requires someone who knows what they're doing. I'm not a big fan of having holes drilled into my boat, esp. when there's so much wiring in the aft of the boat just underneath the fiberglass.

Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I trusted my canvas guy to handle all aspects of the design & install (including snaps) for mine....and he did a great job. Any experienced shop knows enough to only drill as deep as necessary to install the fastener.
