Hatch Switch Wiring Sequence

I have a 96 Z 255 SHABAH, I took off the wires on the back of the hatch switch & don't remember how they go back on, left top red, right top black, middle left?, middle right?, bottom left?, bottom right? etc. Anyone know the correct way to go back on? Thanks

Re: Rocker Switches

Hi ginodesico, your hatch switch should be wired the following way (assuming your switch has 6 tabs, if it has more, read the last sentence):

Top Left (Black/Main Ground)

Top Right (Red/Main Power In)

Middle Left (Red/Lift Power)

Middle Right (Black/Lift Ground)

Bottom Lef (Red Jumper/connects to Top Right/Main Power In)

Bottom Right (Black Jumper/connects to Top Left/Main Ground)

If your Hatch switch has more than 6 tabs, let me know how many it has, the wiring is still similar but there is an additional two sets of wires to deal with.

Thank you! I just looked at the forum today & found you had posted this information. I will try this out & thanks a ton. I was at wits end going back & forth with combinations...:)

Re: Hatch Switch Wiring Sequence

Now I am looking to figured out how to get power or jump to accessories panel? I used your sequence of:
Top Left (Black/Main Ground)

Top Right (Red/Main Power In)

Middle Left (Red/Lift Power)

Middle Right (Black/Lift Ground)

Bottom Left (Red Jumper/connects to Top Right/Main Power In)

Bottom Right (Black Jumper/connects to Top Left/Main Ground)

for the back but the switch needs power from somewhere, right?

I found this diagram but it just shows the wiring from switch to switch. Does the hatch get power from the accessories console? I have looked on-line for something to help this non-electrical guy, (me) out :) I get home wring but not real good with my boat. thanks to any help.

Hi ginodesico, that's the diagram I've been using.

Considering the load the lifts must place on the wiring, I would think they would have a dedicated fuse/circuit breaker and power lead from the battery.

I have a few questions:

1) Is your Hatch switch on the dash or on the auxiliary stereo panel located down by the throttle?

2) Do you have a digital camera that you could take a picture of the back of your switch that you could post here and could you document any writing on the back of the switch indicating model or part numbers? (I ask because I made made a mistake in my earlier post when referring to the number of terminals. As you can see from the switch in the diagram, there are 10 of them)

Re: Hatch Switch Wiring Sequence

It is a 6 post switch, I was just using that diagram I found on the site. I think what I need to do is test to see which one of the lines is hot, then use that as a point of reference for the rest of the sequence to connect the rest of the wires. My digital camera shot craps. I will more than likely just take the wire harness to a boat dealer & see if they can help. I really appreciate all you have done.
The old hatch gets heavy lifting it on your own or I might just invest in some non-electrical rams for it.
