Battery box full of water
 

Gidday guys,
Got home from work (I work away) after not checking the boat completely for a while as its winter here, I checked the engine compartment and not seeing anything too wrong checked the battery (its in a plastic box with cover and held down with a strap). Upon opening the box I was horrified to find the whole box totally full of water and the battery stuffed. I have no idea how the water got in - must have been before I put her under cover.
Anyway, bought another battery and took the plastic box out and drilled half a dozen holes around the bottom.
So really this is a big reminder to everyone to check your battery after any lay up. It still has me stuffed how the water got in cause there were only 2 small slots on the top!!!
I now have to get the service department here to check some things because the bilge pump and blower both pop out the little black buttons on the dash when I flick them on.
Any one know if this would be covered by the warranty?? My boat is still less than 12 months old.

wow, did the battery freeze and maybe crack?
fuses popping sounds like a short, man have I learned electronics and water dont mix
i once left the pulg in during a rains torm and fille dmy whole back end full of water...im such a noob

I'd check with your dealer, as long as you haven't mentioned the water in the battery case incident, they might cover it under warranty. I hope for your sake, they do cover it. :)

I'm not sure I would drill holes in my battery box. I'd hate to think what damage battery acid could do.

Batery acid will definitely eat at what whatever it is sitting in (even the case). Although the case gives you some time to catch the problem. In the past with our last boat (13' Glastron that lasted 25 years of us trying to kill it), we always pulled the battery and stored it seperately for such concerns.

Sure do hope it is covered by warranty, definately wont tell them about this water problem, still got me stuffed how it got in though. Battery boxes are dirt cheap, so perhaps I might get another one and still drill holes in it but further up so if any acid does leak (god forbid) I will catch it.
And yes, taking it out for the winter period would be VERY wise.
