Engine flushing
 

Is there a way to flush my engne (3.0L) with the boat inside the water (salt)? any adapters? or is the adapter on the drive the only way.

Hi A320,

I assume you’re trying flush out the salt from the motor… definitely not a easy task with it sitting in the salty stuff! Here's one possible alternative, instead of using the adapter (ear muffs), find an automobile radiator reverse flush kit. Most come with a garden hose adapter that splices into the heater hose on the car and that hose might just be the same size as the water feed hose from the sterndrive to the motor.

Once installed, you just remove the cap, connect the fresh water hose and run water through and when you finished, remove the hose, put the cap back on and your ready for the next outing. You won’t be able to run the motor this way because if you try, you’ll just suck up the salt water but at least you’ll get most of the salt out of the motor.

Volvo Penta makes a kit for in-water flushing. It uses a special solution that you pump through your engine for about 30 seconds to get rid of all the salt. It's called "Neutra-Salt". Basically the kit comes with an electric pump, a fluid reservoir, and it connects into your water inlet to the engine line. There's a switch that gets mounted near the helm, and when you're ready to flush, press the switch for about 30 seconds. It runs the solution through the engine block which dissolves the salt, and then the solution (and salt) exits through the exhaust in the prop. It seems like a very practical way to do this, and it's not terribly priced.
