That does not look to good. My dash was a bit faded when I got my boat, a couple coats of 3M vinyl cleaner brought it back to life. Not sure how to approach your issue, it looks pretty permament. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a solution, you could always go to a plastics shop and they should be able to recolor it but that will probably not be cheap.

Discoloured? ... Honestly .. it looks like it has been coloured!

That is the first I have seen like that. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Justin - I have the same dash except that mine is red. Because the back side of the red dash is black plastic, I'm pretty sure it is painted. One of my gunwale glove box lids is white like your dash and is beginning to show similar colorization. A fresh coat of white paint is what I plan to try. The question is, what kind of paint? :painting:

If you are going to paint your job will be much bigger than mine.

Best of luck,

Perhaps the guys at Fibrenew can help - they do dash boards.
But no doubt you have already checked them out.
THere is a thorough sticky here on this General Maintenance thread

Has anyone tried that Krylon plastic paint? I'd hate to try painting plastic, I've never seen anything work, but I've heard good reaction to this new Krylon paint.

Re: Discolored Dash?

Yes,there was one year which we painted the dashes to match the interior...but as you can see,the problems were unacceptable...so we went to using plastic sheets already colored from the factory...I guess the automotive interior paint we used can't hold up to the UV light as it can in a car. Mr.Fulks jumped on the problem as soon as he knew there was one....so we went to the colored plastic....but it was too late for some....for that I apologize, for I'm the person that painted them... we did it 'by the book',but it was the material that failed, not the workmanship.....I'd say the Krylon for plastic would be your best bet....Hope this helps....Bob.

Re: Discolored Dash?

I used a local Color Glo vinyl repair franchise to re-color (paint) the dash, and so far, so good.
From my experience in the Upholstery business i recommend a Vinyl paint (i think the brand name is Sims?)
Either way the Local Color Glo lady did a great job.

It'll be interesting to see how the 'Color Glo' (or is it Colour Glo :p) holds up to the summer sun....
